Mysteries about Helsinki; the most knowledge-based cities in the world
 

IUESA: Generally, it can be said that in order to develop knowledge-based societies, it is important to care about knowledge and other forms of intangible assets. Naturally, the paths of cities’ development are different from each other. Yet, it seems that transferring production tendency from natural and physical resources to knowledge-based ones is almost equal in many cities.

Fenland, in general, and Helsinki, in particular, have achieved to the top of knowledge-based economy because of historical, geographical and other features. These characteristics include cold winter, being industrialized in the late 1950s, recession in 1990s, influence of Sweden and Russia leading to physical, economic, political, and cultural history.
By sudden recession during 1990 to 1993, economic development of this area was similar to other places in Fenland. 
The recession was a major milestone for Helsinki to achieve to changes in the world competition including huge growth in ICT. This sector is important because of innovation in technology, important resource of value added.
