The role of the media in smartization of cities/ urban dynamicity dependent on the vitality of the Media
IUESA: regarding the position of the media in urban sustainability, Seyyed Mohsen Tabatabaei, the secretary of IUESA said, the role of the media is particular in most of developed countries. It has obtained a scientific reference for itself in Iran because of special cultural and political conditions and requirements. Different parts in the society can be developed by using its capacity.
Noting that more than 70 percent of Iranian populations live in cities and it is predicted that it will reach to 75 percent by 2050 at global level, he said, today, local government or Municipalities play an important role in presenting public services such as training, sanitary, medical care, security in most developed countries and it shows that the improvement of urban management can lead to promote urban quality of millions of people.
In my opinion the media can institutionalize the issue of smartization of cities as a serious demand among the public and authorities, he added.
Emphasizing that smart city is a the one with efficient urban management and based on modern technologies and also the citizens are aware and conscious, he further added, the media can provide implementing solutions and monitor urban management measures.
Urban development is dependent on the improvement of knowledge and citizens’ awareness regarding their rights and responsibilities. Unfortunately most media are not concerned about the issues of cities while a city is a place that people live there and human life occurs in it. If it is supposed to have a progress or regress in economic, social, and cultural fields, it will occur in the city base.
He considered the interaction between urban management and citizens of great importance and said, basically, the media are the fourth pillar of the democracy in protection of privacy and civil society. In urban areas, it is necessary to listen to the demands of the citizens on the one hand and functions and capabilities of municipal managers to be shown in the public.
